What size habitat should I choose?

Choose for the colony you have now, not the colony you expect later. A compact, appropriately sized nest helps ants use their space naturally. Expand when the current chambers are consistently occupied.

How do I manage hydration?

Hydration needs vary by species and climate. Add water gradually, observe how the colony uses the moisture gradient, and avoid saturating the full nesting area.

When should I move or expand the colony?

Expand when workers occupy most available chambers and activity begins to feel crowded. Connecting additional space is usually less disruptive than forcing a complete move.
